Music taste is one of the strongest predictors of social compatibility. Research from the University of Cambridge found that people who share musical preferences are more likely to form lasting friendships — and at festivals, shared taste is everything. This compatibility checker uses the same Spotify-powered matching algorithm that powers FestivalMates. When you connect Spotify, we analyze your top artists and genres from the last 6 months. The algorithm weighs artist overlap most heavily (60%) because shared artists are the strongest compatibility signal — two people who both love Eric Prydz are a much stronger match than two people who both checked “Techno.”

How does the music compatibility test work?
We compare your music taste using the same algorithm that powers FestivalMates matching. If you connect Spotify, we analyze your top artists and genres from the last 6 months. The algorithm weighs artist overlap (60%), genre overlap (30%), and bonus factors (10%) to produce a compatibility score from 0-100%. It's the same scoring system used to match 24+ festival-goers on the platform.
Do I need Spotify to check compatibility?
No! You can manually pick your top 5 genres and search for your favorite artists instead. Spotify gives the most accurate results because it uses your actual listening data, but the manual option works great too — especially if you don't use Spotify.
What does the compatibility score mean?
90%+ is Soul Mates — you listen to the same artists and genres. 75-89% is Festival Twins — strong overlap, you'd have an amazing time at a festival together. 60-74% is Good Vibes — enough shared taste to bond over. 40-59% is Worth a Chat — different tastes but some common ground. Below 40% is Different Vibes — opposites attract, right?
Is my Spotify data safe?
We only read your top artists and genres — we never modify your Spotify account, access your playlists, or store your Spotify credentials. The data is stored temporarily (7 days) for the compatibility check and then automatically deleted. We don't sell or share your data with anyone.
Can I check compatibility with more than one friend?
Yes! After checking your results, click 'Start Over' to generate a new link. Each comparison creates a unique shareable link, so you can check compatibility with as many friends as you want. It's a great way to figure out who to go to festivals with.
